Description Of Project
Troy Adams was asked to redesign a kitchen in a mid-century modern home located in the hills of Pasadena, California overlooking the Rose Bowl.
Aside from the overall aesthetic of the kitchen being dated, there were numerous angles that didn’t relate to the style of the home. The sink was on a diagonal with the dishwasher adjacent to it, which wasn’t functional for cleaning and loading dishes. Furthermore, the range was located at the end of the center island, proving as a safety hazard should a hot pan handle move into the high-traffic zone. The kitchen was also lacking in countertop space and had limited upper cabinet space.
Adams gave the kitchen a completely new layout with clean lines. To create an aesthetically-pleasing design, he worked with the rectilinear lines of the post and beam aesthetic of the home. He installed a functional U-shaped island that served many functions. To bring an uninterrupted flow and openness to the space, Adams made it so that one leg of the island related to the family room allowing the user to see the television. The other leg of the island opened to the dining room, and the other leg allowed for a full view of the outdoor courtyard.
To complete the overall vision, Adams opted for CaesarStone and basalt countertops, as well as backpainted orange countertops for the raised bar. For the cabinets, he chose textured light oak wood, backpainted glass door fronts, as well as a Macassar Ebony wood. The refrigerated pantry was done in frosted glass and offers significant wine storage. The couple can now enjoy and fully utilize their new kitchen space. As two home chefs, they truly appreciate the functionality of their new work space and from an entertaining perspective they can now prepare food, while interacting with their guests and having an open view to the party. |
