Description Of Project

Small Contemporary Kitchen

A delightful and artistic kitchen was the vision of the homeowners. The original kitchen had typical white cabinetry in a track home design, with peninsula wall cabinetry obstructing the view from the kitchen to the nook and family room area. The husband is an executive with an advertising agency, and had strong opinions in the selection of materials and design for this kitchen. The end results were just what they had imagined; giving them a room they are proud to entertain in.

Plenty of seating was a priority since they have a teenage daughter that brings an active social scene to the home. A custom table was designed for the nook area, with a colorful collection of marbles displayed under glass. The raised bar top was edged in wood to soften the hard lines of the glass, and adds mystery to the glass material. This counter was also angled, adding more seating and more interest to the room.

A backsplash of metal and glass tiles was designed to complement the cabinetry and appliance finishes. For added whimsy, tiles were inserted into false drawer fronts on the island. Glass tiles were inserted into the back of the peninsula and lighted with LEDs. Stainless pendants add dramatic lighting over the raised bar top.

The oak flooring was original to the home and maintains the consistency of this traditional home. Black galaxy granite counters add a warm sparkle of copper. The granite is repeated on an open display shelf above the pantry, and illuminated with halogen puck lights.
Stainless steel appliances add to the professional feel of the kitchen. The homeowners wanted a strong statement made with their kitchen; and the combination of stainless, black and rich woods gave them the drama they were looking.
